Wikipedia 25th Anniversary Enterprise Partners Announcement

Announcing New Wikimedia Enterprise Partners for Wikipedia’s 25th Birthday

On 15 January 2026, Wikipedia celebrates 25 years of making trustworthy, human-created knowledge accessible worldwide. To mark this occasion, we are highlighting the growth of the Wikimedia Enterprise ecosystem and the partners who help sustain this mission. Over the past year, we have formalized relationships with several companies that rely on Wikimedia project data to power their applications.

Today, we are announcing Amazon, Meta, Microsoft, Mistral AI, and Perplexity for the first time as they join our roster of partners, which includes Google, Ecosia, Nomic, Pleias, ProRata, and Reef Media. All these organizations utilize Wikimedia Enterprise to integrate human-governed knowledge into their platforms at scale. By doing so, they help ensure that the work of our global volunteer community reaches billions of people with the accuracy and transparency that Wikipedia represents.

The Wikimedia Enterprise blog serves as a resource for understanding these collaborations. You can already explore several in-depth articles about our partners and the challenges they aim to solve. We will continue to share more insights from across our ecosystem on the blog over time.

Wikipedia in the age of AI

In the AI era, Wikipedia’s human-created and curated knowledge has never been more valuable. Today, Wikipedia is among the top-ten most-visited global websites, and it is the only one to be run by a nonprofit. Global audiences view more than 65 million articles in over 300 languages nearly 15 billion times every month, and its knowledge powers generative AI chatbots, search engines, voice assistants, and more. Wikipedia remains one of the highest-quality datasets for training Large Language Models.

Tech companies that rely on Wikipedia content must use it responsibly and help sustain Wikipedia for the future. One key way to do this is through Wikimedia Enterprise. Developed by the Wikimedia Foundation, Wikimedia Enterprise is a commercial product for large-scale reusers and distributors of content from Wikimedia projects. Enterprise provides reliable, high-throughput API access to Wikipedia through several tailored options:

  • The On-demand API returns the most recent version for a specific article request.
  • The Snapshot API provides Wikipedia as a downloadable file for every language, updated every hour.
  • The Realtime API streams updates as they happen.

As knowledge on Wikipedia continues to grow to close knowledge gaps and include more languages, its value as a dataset for a broad spectrum of use cases also increases. Wikimedia Enterprise APIs not only give access to this ever-growing font of human-curated knowledge, but also to several other Wikimedia projects that can enrich and complement Wikipedia’s knowledge. This makes Wikimedia Enterprise also valuable for more niche and specialized use cases, such as knowledge graphs with travel data or RAG models trained on educational material.

Find out how your project can benefit from the vast, multilingual, human knowledge repository that the Wikipedia community has built over the past 25 years, with Wikimedia Enterprise to ensure high-speed, reliable access to the world’s most trusted source of knowledge.
